Clyde Martz - 2 - February 17, 1987
there may be good reason to change the statute in a way that might assist
Mr. Mosch. I have proposed we exclude operations of less than one acre from
any reclamation requirements under the statute unless they involve toxic
materials or are in a stream. We will attempt to work with all interests in
the mining community, local government and environmental groups to come up
with appropriate legislation for next year's session. Our challenge is to
maintain the environmental controls while at the same time eliminating
unnecessarily difficult, duplicative or time consuming regulations. I believe
that the Mined Land Reclamation Division and Board are exemplary in this area
and we will continue to strive towards this goal.
/pjh
7517E
