JERIS A. DANIELSON, DEPUTY STATE ENGINEER
SUBJECT: IDEAL BASIC INDUSTRIES -PORTLAND QUARRY, FREMONT COUNTY,
APPLICATION FOR MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT
As requested by your office, we have reviewed the application for a limestone
quarry near Florence. Exhibit D (revised) states that "the only use of water is
for control of dust..." and that this water is obtained from the cement plant
water system. Page 3 of Exhibit E (revised), however, states that "...a
small water impoundment may be advantageous in the reclamation plan of the
lower east quarry area" . The applicant does not state what this "advantageous"
impoundment would be used for or what effects it might have on the severely
over-appropriated Arkansas River. Prior to approval of this application, the
Board should require additional information concernin0g this impoundment.
ris 7S.
