As a homeowner living approximately I/4 mile from the boundary of the
Benson proposed red shale pit in Coalby Canyon, I wish to state my strenous objections
to this operation. I wish to be made a parry to the proceeding, I wish to be on the mailing
list, and would like for apre-hearing conference to be held in Cedazedge. Please have the
preheazing conference include a tour of the site to which all parties are included. Please
schedule a hearing on the application, for all of the reasons stated in this protest, and set
the hearing in Delta or Grand Junction, a location convenient to the proposed project site.
My property abuts the Bensons property on the south, and my home lies directly
under the Rollins cliffs on the south end of the permit boundary. I personally believe I am
in danger of rock falls from these cliffs which may be caused by activity at the quarry.
Vibrations from heavy machinery as well as from the rock crusher will put my life and
property in danger. I am also concerned about flash flood dangers from the cliffs above
my house. I personally witnessed a flash flood over these cliffs several years ago, and feel
that sediment will wash over the cliffs and flood danger will increase if the dirt is
loosened above the cliffs. I am also concerned about the destruction of trees and
vegetation if the Bensons remove redrock down to the staked boundaries on the south
side of the permit boundary. The loss of that vegetation and topsoil will greatly increase
the flash flood and rock fall potential.
Dust from the operation, and noise, may greatly impact my property. I am elderly
and feel inhalation of that dust may adversely impact my health. Please note also that I
feel my property values will be decreased, and my property is part of my retirement nest
egg. I do not feel the Benson's have the right to take that away from me.
For all of the above reasons, I ask that you deny Benson's state reclamation
pernut.
S` i Un~~ c e ire ly y u y~ o u r s,
L Cl~ ~%~~
enclosures: photos of my home from the cliffs above, near my north property boundary
