WEED MANAGEMENT PLAN
for the
Jemadojin Sand Mine
DMG File #M-2006-017
Location: Section 34, T16S, R62W,
EI Paso County, Colorado
Site Operator: Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands, Inc.
Attn: Richard Kibbe, Plant Manager
3250 Drennan Industrial Loop
Colorado Springs, CO 80910
(719)390-7969
Date prepared: May 2, 2006
Introduction
Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands, Inc. (Operator) plans to operate the Jemadojin Sand
Mine in EI Paso County, Colorado. The permit boundary contains approximately 300
acres, but only 70 of those acres will be disturbed for mining and related activities.
Approximately 30 acres will be mined. The site will be mined over approximately 20
years, with final reclamation to restore the land to its original land use of rangeland.
There is not currently any significant weed problem at this site. Preventative measures
will be taken, however, to reduce the possibility of noxious weeds infesting the site. The
entire permitted site (including undisturbed areas) will be monitored for all species listed
on the EI Paso County Noxious Weed list. This Plan will be modified and/or updated as
necessary by the Operator, particularly to incorporate any new weed prevention and
control measures.
Weed Prevention Plan
The operator will minimize the disturbed area to the extent possible, including stripping
the mine area in phases and limiting vehicular traffic to designated access roads.
Reclamation will occur as concurrently with mining as possible, and reclaimed areas will
be reseeded with certified weed free seed mix(es) approved by the Division of Minerals
and Geology (DMG), mulched with weed free straw (not hay) or other mulch type free of
potential contamination, and irrigated via water truck as necessary to encourage quick
growth. Stockpiles which will remain undisturbed for more than a growing season will
also be reseeded with an approved temporary seed mix.
Jemadojin Sand Mine May 2006
Weed Management Plan Page 1
