areas to create diversity of form and color, and to extend stands of similar species. Planting rates
will be 20 to 40 seedlings per grouping and from 2 to 5 groups per acre. Tree and shrub
seedlings/tublings will be planted with shingle protective boards or a similar protective structure
to prevent dessication and assist in establishment. If necessary, protective mesh will be used to
prevent wildlife from eating fresh seedling stock.
(d) Remaining Features: The Marble Historical Society has requested that such
historic features as the cable tower outside the middle quarry entry (which is outside the affected
area), the quarry entries, and the marble waste piles remain after mining is complete. Below is a
copy of a letter from the Marble Historical Society requesting that the waste piles remain
exposed after mining is complete. A road will remain that traverses the waste piles. The
approximate alignment of the road is shown on Exhibit E: Reclamation Plan. The maximum
width of the road will be 15 feet, and will provide permanent private access to the White Marble
No. 2 Placer Claim. The road may also be used by jeep tour operators to allow viewing of the
historic quarry workings by members of the public not willing or able to hike to the quarry along
the trail. Permanent fences will be constructed for public safety in all quarry openings that are
not backfilled. Portions of fences remain from the Inactive Mine Program's efforts in the mid-
' 1980's to improve public safety at the site. Similar fences will be constructed, possibly during
mining operations, and certainly at the completion of operations.
Marble Nisbdcal 8oclaty
I:% MaLn Sneer
Merhle l'olravW NI623.%41
April 11. 1999
Mr.Rea Loesby
Siena Minerals Corporation
6164 South Newport Street
Englewood.Colorado 80111
Dear Mr. Loesby,
The Marble Historical Society is,of course.interested in the de%clopmenn concerning the marble quarry and its
possible reopening in the new Cuture. We understand that the Mine Reclamation Board is involved in this process
and may require you to do some reclamation in the quarry area. We hope this area does not include the'rubble"pile
ofweste marble that has been thrown over the side of the hill down to the river. This ism enormously interesting
attraction to both local residents and visitors to our area and we would prefer that it not be covered with din and
reclaimed but, rather, left as it is.
We appreciate your willingness to accommodate the interest and curiosity of the public in your plans for the quarry
Sincerely, /
Bettie Lou Gilbert
Vice-president
21
