Dept. of Natural @esol!rces
Dear Mr. Schmieding,
Re Val co, Inc. - Canon City East Pit - MLR File 77-559
On January 6, 1978, Mr. C. A. Curd of the Rio Grande Railroad
wrote to you expressing some concerns about the mining opera-
tion at the Canon City East Pit and requesting that three con-
ditions be included in any permit granted by the D9LRB.
On behalf of Valco, Inc., the operator of the pit site, we
respectfully request that the inclusion of such conditions
be denied on the basis of the following information:
1. The slopes of the side walls of the excavation are
gentler than the railroad requests. The slopes are, in fact,
3 to 1.
2. Good engineering practices will be followed during
the mining and reclamation of the site. The project will be
inspected and approved by a representative of the Division
of Mines.
3. Valco has no reason to permit any of its vehicles or
personnel to enter upon or cross the railroad's right of way
and does not intend to permit any such activity.
Yours truly,
~~
%~~q
resident
LEO:amo
cc: Valco, Inc.
