Road A
Landslide Remediation Plan
History
Haul Road A was Constructed during the fall of 1989 and spring of 1990. Pend 006 was
constructed in the fell of 1989. The south side of the pond cut slopes experienced minor
sloughing during the spring of 1990. Apparently, the fluctuations in the ground water
table contributed to the sloughing. Until the recent (4/5/93) slide of the outslope of
Road A, the area appeared to be stable. Minor sloughing of other cut slopes in the
immediate area suggest that, due to a wet winter, the ground water table rose, creating e
zone of saturation which led to the slope failure.
lnvestiaat ion
A meeting was held in the field on April 13, 1993. This meeting between Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology (CDMG) end Peabody was held to assess the situation end
• preliminarily determine the cause, if possible.
Subsequent to the meeting, the perimeter of the slide was surveyed, monitoring pins were
set, and procedures were established to visually monitor the slide progression.
It was noted that the toe of the slide was saturated end water was still seeping at the
•
time of the inspection. The elide was inspected on May 25, 1993 for seepage end none was
observed.
Figures 13-46-1 end 13-AB-2 show the limits of the slide area. Figure 13.4B-2 shows the
latest location of monitoring points.
Monitoring of the slide area began on April 14, 1993. The most recent date (6/4/93)
indicates that the rate of movement has subsided substantially over the last several weeks
(survey data has been submitted to CDMG). The slide action, due to drying conditions, has
decelerated to the point where remedial anion can be actompl fished.
13 -G B-1
