IV

Define SCS Curve Numbers
Using field observation by mine personnel, a revegetation schedule as shown
below was developed for reclaimed land. The schedule shows expected plant
cover for each year after a part-ipular location has been reclaimed.
First Year of Growth - 'Ol; cover
Second Year of Growth - 15% cover
Third Year of Growth - 40% cover
Fourth Year of Growth - 60% cover
•
The vegetation was assumed to be primarily sagebrush and grasses, and no
more than 60% cover was anticipated at any time.
Annual curve numbers were developed by determining the ground cover for
each year in each mining block as it was disturbed, mined and reclaimed.
The curve numbers were taken from Fig. 5-3, pg. 19, reference number 2
assuming a "D" type soil. It was assumed that reseeding would begin the
year after mining and that all runoff from the active mining area would
flow directly into the pond. However, actual operating practices call for
the runoff from the pit area to be held in the bottom of the pit until
there is room available in the sediment pond. Therefore, the runoff into
the pond will be less than shown in Table 1.
•
