V. THREATENED AND ENDANGERED PLANT SPECIES
U
C~
•
Based on consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Colorado Natural
Heritage Program (USFWS, 1994, CNHP, 1994) the only plant species in the area of the
RPE area listed or eligible for listing under the federal Endangered Species Act is
Penstemon mensarum (Grand Mesa penstemon). In their envvonmental assessment for
the adjacent Box Canyon lease tract, BLM found that there was no designated critical
habitat for any listed threatened or endangered species (BLM, 1994). In our numerous
traverses of the RPE area, no penstemon species were observed, nor was likely habitat for
Penstemon mensarum identified.
On September 25, 1995, Dr. Robert Dorn conducted a pedestrian survey for individuals of
Penstemon mensarum on the RPE area. No individuals were found. A complete report is
found in Westec, 1995.
-12-
