~II ~IIIII~I~~~~~ ~I~
~~~~~~~®
JUL 111988
MINED LAND
fiECLAMATION DIVI$IQN
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Room 215; 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO z50203
Gentlemen;
July 9, 19tsS
This letter is to let you know that we are very concerned about the proposed
Andesite Rock Company gravel pit. There are three factors which need to be
seriously considered before a permit is issued. They are:
1. Safety: If the gravel trucks take the proposed routes, they will either be
traveling on Road 21 or 124. If they use Road 21, they will be going through
the town of Carr to Road 126. They will be passing the Post Office where
traffic is the heaviest. The safety of the children in town should also be
considered. There is a bridge on 126 with a 15 ton weight limit.
If they take 124, they will be traveling over a very narrow road which can
become very muddy, sometimes impassable. This road also has a steep hill
which could become a safety hazard for oncoming traffic.
2. Dus[: No matter what time of the year it is in Carr, the wind blows. With
the anticipated number of trucks, the dust could be horrendous and road
maintenance would be continuous. You also must realize that approximately
1000 acres of grassland will be destroyed over a period of 30 years. With
the conservation efforts of the county, it seems that this would be in
direct opposition.
3. Noise: Carr has been a quiet community, but this will change if the gravel
pit is allowed. The noise from the trucks, in addition to the crusher, will
change our quality of life. Our property values will decrease.
We request that if you do issue this permit that you guarantee safety, that
dust be controlled, and that the noise be at an acceptable level. Perhaps the
land owner or Andesite Rock Company could provide a different route to Highway b5
and I-25.
Sincerely,
7ITi~ . q 7~Z>xv. ~tfe~ 4~w~
~crJr// 1 CD $'01011
P.S. IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT WATER
COULD BE TAKEN FROPA LONE TREE CREEK AND OUR DOMESTIC WELLS. IF THIS
IS THE CASE, THE PEOPLE OF THE CARR COAIMUNITY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.
SCC /{E/•c PSG S%alG }~rre R'a4/f'lcNNL S .
~rj N/~tu iP~°S
