This
conforms to the land use in general and nearby Pike National Forest.
The reclamation phase of this gravel pit will be done in accordance with
applicable USDA-NAGS specifications, standards and guidelines. National
Forest standards specific to the use of seeded species fiom locally native plants,
fertilizers and mulch will also apply to the reclamation activities.
The proposed mining area has been identified as Management Area 2B, which
emphasizes outdoor recreation in roaded natural or rural setting. The
proposed area (section 30) is within the active grazing allotment "Four Mile ".
Anon-native population of leafy spurge (approximately 15 acres in size) is present
at the site and would be scheduled for chemical control treatments.
Reclamation would begin on the north mine boundary, it's western half,
and proceed to the east and south as final grades are met.
The reclamation process would involve the following steps:
1. The proposed mining process would facilitate reclamation by
reducing slopes to between 2:1 and 3:1, with the exception of
possible rock outcrops. To the extent practical, the contours will
be reshaped to simulate natural topographic conditions and slopes
would be varied to include random flat areas of various sizes
and shapes. Contouring during reclamation would also include
the creation of water bars draining to the flat areas and other
measures to minimize erosion. It is likely that there will be some
hard rock outcroppings that will remain after the mining process.
