Ute Mine site near
Sedalia, Douglas County. The site is a 160-acre property, I believe comprised of S/2 SE/4 Section 1 l and
N/2 NE/4 Section l4, T7S, R68W, just north of the town of Sedalia and east of Hwy 85.
As with any siting of a new landfill, there will be concerns voiced by many folks. One aspect already
brought to our attention is that this location may conflict with a wildlife corridor and Douglas County
planning for Open Space. I have explained that for landfill applications, CDPHE looks at statewide
technical standards and requirements contained in the solid waste regulations, and that the local
jurisdiction, Douglas County, would evaluate the proposed land use based on local development plans
and land use considerations. The County's decision would be make after due notice and public hearings.
Along with this heads-up on the impending landfill application, I am providing a copy of our compliance
bulletin on the permitting procedure for solid waste disposal sites. As the property is an active mine site,
DMG will also be involved. I am confident that the applicant is familiar with proper permit procedures.
Should you have any questions, I may be reached at 303-692-345.
Sincerely
J. et~x
Geologist, Solid Waste Unit
Compliance Program
Enclosure
cc: Bruce Wilson, Tri-County Health Department
Carl Mount, DNR-DMG
Wil] Allison, AGO
File SW/DOU/SLC 1.1
