'• The Yoast Spring Nos. 1-5 are located on the Yoast Mine parcel, are decreed for
domestic and livestock water, and are owned by SCC. SCC acquired afifteen/sixteenth's
' (15/16ths) interest in the water right for the Sage Creek Reservoir and the water right for the
Sage Creek Reservoir Outlet Ditch. Also, SCC acquired the irrigated land under these systems
from the Axial Basin Ranch Company. These water rights are described in more detail in a
subsequent section of this report.
The water right for the Sage Creek Ditch was transferred from its original point of
' diversion near the Hayden Station downstream to the point where the Marshall Roberts Ditch
crosses Sage Creek. The Marshall Roberts Ditch also diverts water from the Yampa River at
a point about 1 mile east of Sage Creek.
The U. S. Geological Survey operated a stream gage on Sage Creek at a point about 0.8
mile above Sage Creek Reservoir from May 1981 through September 1 983 11 959-1 983, U. S.
' Geological Survey). The stream discharge totalled 491 acre-feet in 1982 and 860 acre-feet
in 1983 as shown in Table 5.
' Grassv Creek
' Surface water diversions near or downstream of Pond 010 include the Armand Ditch
No. 1 and Armand Ditch No. 2. These structures are located in the Yoast Parcel and the
water rights are owned by SCC. Also, SCC owns the Armand Spring Nos. 1-3, and the
Armand Artesian Well which also are located on the Yoast Parcel. The Nofstger Reservoir,
Nofstger Ziegler Reservoir, and Wedge Pit Reservoir are filled by other tributaries of Grassy
Creek and will not be impacted by water uses at the Yoast Mine. Wadge Pit Reservoir is
' owned by SCC and is associated with the Seneca II Mine. These structures are shown on
Plate 1.
The U. S. Geological Survey operated a stream gage on Grassy Creek just downstream
' of Scotchman's Gulch from 1959 through 1966. As shown in Table 6 the streamflow
averaged 1,041 acre-feet annually and ranged from 149 acre-feet in 1963 to 2,555 acre-feet
in 1962.
SAGE CREEK RESERVOIR IRRIGATION SYSTEM
SCC acquired a 15/16th's interest in the water rights for the Sage Creek Reservoir and
all of the water rights for the Sage Creek Reservoir Outlet Ditch and Greasewood Flats
' Reservoir from the Axial Basin Ranch Company. This company acquired the water rights and
irrigated land from Bob Barnes in the mid 1980's. The structures located on Sage Creek were
used to store and divert water for irrigation of land in the Dry Creek basin. Greasewood Flats
' Reservoir is located on Dill Gulch, a tributary of Dry Creek and was used to supplement
diversions by the Dry Creek Ditch.
' Water was stored in Sage Creek Reservoir, released, and diverted by the Sage Creek
Reservoir Outlet Ditch. The point of diversion for this ditch is located on the westerly bank
of Sage Creek about 3.5 miles downstream from Sage Creek Reservoir. The ditch travels
northwesterly about 2 miles to the irrigated land. Portions of the diversions were delivered
to the Dry Creek Ditch. The ditch and irrigated land are shown in Plates 1 and 2.
' 4
