_ - - MINED LAI~WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATIOIT(Revised)
for limited impact and select regular mine applications
'Ihe following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land
'Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for:
DeWitt Excavating / Sand Pit / SW's Sec. 7, T235, R46W
Name/Type and Location of Mine (Legal)
'Wildlife Species list:
-Pronghorn (?)
-Scaled Quail
-Cottontail
-Jackrabbit
-Raptors (Transient)
'Endangered/critical species/impacted:
None that we are aware of.
-Nongame Birds b Mammals .(Especially those adapted
to sandy soil habitat types)
Iritical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
No critical habitats or vegetative communities, in relation to wildlife, are present;
however the sand sage / sand dune community is very fragile and special care needs to
be used in mining and rehabilitation.
/lssessment of impact:
Due to it's proximity to Lamar and the fact that the area already consists mainly of a
sand dune, the impact on wildlife will be minimal. However, if special care is not
taken in rehabilitating the site the blowout or sand dune will never be reclaimed and
may in fact become larger.
?line Reclamation recommendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
i.s designed).
Reclamation of the area should be done in strips from the south to the north so that
p evailing winds will not move sand onto reclaimed areas. Any slopes should be graded
to 3:1 or less. Revegetation work should take place around the 1st of December late r7
so as to prevent early germination during late warm spells. (Mu c i~ a neccesit•, if
revegetation is to be successful. Hydromulching would be ideal, followed by manure and
then straw, in terms of effectivness. De-hulled forms of Sand_and-S.atr~.-.. BLu_est~m_are
recommended. Side oats Gramma and Sand Dropseed can also be used. All grass seeds
should be drilled, prferably when the sand is wet. This would also make equipment use
on the sand dune easier. Brush piles constructed on the area would also help stab- .
ilize the sand and provide cover for numerous birds and mammals.
Prepared By:
Submitted By:_
This state.~nent is
Bryant D.
