Since the sand and gravel resource is located below the ground water elevation, pumping of the ground
water is necessary. Pumping will occur continually during resource extregion efforts from the Colorado
River aquifer. It is anllGpated that the pumping rate will be in the range of B00 gallons per minute.
Ground water welt be pumped Io the existing drainage Swale and 24 inch culvert ad)acont 1o Interstate 70
and ultimately discharged Into the Colorado River Discharge arid Well Permits wdl be obtained from the
State of Colorado prior to exposing or pumping the ground water Acceptance of the pumped discharges
by the Colorado Department of Highways will be required prior to the issuance of a Discharge Permit by
the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
A program will be established to determine current groundwater conditions. levels, direction of flow and
quality by installing, measuring and sampling monitoring welts around the mining area. During mining,
the program currently calls for the installing of additional monitoring wells to determine the effects on the
ground water table during periods of mine de-watering. In the event that draw down of the water table
impags surrounding properties, remedial agivities could Then be planned. Fnally, long term monitoring
of water depths and quality will be possible after mining rs completed.
