Total Plant Ground Cover will be measured as non-overlapping foliaz cover. Non-overlapping
is defined as plant cover below a height of 4.5 feet, with only the firs[ plant "hit" being
recorded. The first "hit" is recorded for the first type of cover intercepted by the sample point
(i.e., plant species, rock, litter or baze ground). Noxious weed species and other problem
plants, particularly annuals (e.g., cheat grass), will be recorded but will not count toward total
vegetation cover. Annual plants that aze not considered weedy may be included in Total Plant
Ground Cover measurements, with their total contribution [o relative plant cover not to exceed
l0%.
Revegetated community Habit Diversity will be evaluated by recording Tota! Plant Ground
Cover data by plant species. Recording data in this fashion will allow evaluation of inter-habit
and infra-habit species diversity using simple analyses without further measurement.
Woody Stem Density will be measured in the permanent revegetation communities concurrently
with Total Plant Ground Cover. To measure the density of woody stems within these areas, the
first step will be to delineate these areas on topographic maps. Belt transects 50 meters by 2
meters will be randomly located and chosen within the potential liability and bond release area.
Woody Stem Density within each transect will be ebsetved and recorded for all woody plant
species occurring within the transect.
All plant species occurring within the vegetation sampling area will be observed and recorded.
A master list of plan[ species, including :::ientific and common names, will be developed. This
information will be included with revegetatior. liability and bond release requests for each
reclaimed area.
Statistical adequacy of samples will be determined. Total Plant Ground Cover sample
population mean and standard deviation will be calculated for each discrete reclaimed area
sampled. Adequacy of sample populations will be determined in accordance with the standazd
formula for calculating sample size:

Where:
N = number of samples collected.
t =the two-tailed distribution value for 80% confidence with N- l degrees of freedom,
s =variance of the estimate calculated from the initial samples, and
x =the mean of the estimate calculated from the initial samples.
Sample populations will meet or exceed minimum size requirements for revegetation success
sampling. A minimum of 15 and a maximum of 50 Total Plant Ground Cover samples will be
taken within each proposed revegetation liability release area.
Amencan Sala.
