Baclcaround and Purpose
The objective of this reclamation plan is to return the disturbed area of the Raton
Creek Mine site to a productive ecosystem capable of supporting the post-mining
land use, which will be livestock grazing. The area will be returned to a plant
community consisting of a permanent, diverse vegetative cover consistent with
grazing use. Minimizing erosion on the steep slopes proposed for the post-mining
configuration is and important consideration.
Revegetation Schedule
Planting and mulching will be performed after topsoil replacement according to
either of following schedules: March 15 -April 30 and October 1 -November 15.
During the first spring following planting, the revegetated area will be evaluated
for germination success. Reseeding may be performed at this time or at any time
until the fifth year of the liability period. Significant reseeding afer the fifth year
could restart the liability period.
• Initial evaluation of the revegetation success will be conducted in the 3rd year
following germination. Monitoring shall include measurements of cover,
production, species diversity and woody plant density.
A thorough evaluation of the revegetation success will be conducted in the last two
(2) years prior to request for final bond release. This data will be used for the
bond release application. If successful criteria are not met at that time, evaluations
will be conducted every second year until successful revegetation is demonstrated.
Plant Species and Amounts to be Seeded
The disturbed area to be revegetated at the Raton Creek Mine site lies within a
pinon juniper vegetation community. Topsoil that was redistributed was stripped
and stockpiled from within this vegetation type, and was homogenous when
replaced. Therefore, one seed mixture will be used for the entire disturbed area.
Because of the nature of the fmal contours for the area
C,
J
519
Revised: 11 /20/97
Minor Revision #l3
