M03086GE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical engineering
study we conducted for the proposed Bowie Number 2 Mine B-Seam and
Stockpile project at the Bowie Number 2 Mine located east of
Paonia, Colorado. The study was conducted at the request of Mr.
Jim Stover, J.E. Stover and Associates.
1 The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
I this report are based field and laboratory data gathered during our
geotechnical engineering study for the conveyor, proposed configu-
rations and cross sections provided by Mr. Jim Stover and on our
experience with similar soil conditions. Factual data gathered
during the field and laboratory work for the proposed conveyor are
presented in our geotechnical engineering report for the conveyor
dated October 7, 1998. We assume that this report is available and
therefore is not reproduced with this report. Our study included
reviewing information presented in "Preliminary Geotechnical
engineering Study Bowie No. 2 Mine, Surface Facilities, Bowie,
Delta County, Colorado" dated July 10, 1996 by Maxim Technologies,
Inc. we assume this report is available and therefore is not
reproduced with this report.
1.1 Proposed Construction
It is our understanding that the proposed project will consist of
constructing a portal bench with methods of excavation cut and fill
placement. The excess excavated material will be used to construct
two (2) stockpile areas down hill from the proposed portal bench
site. The proposed excavation cut slope at the portal bench will
be constructed at an inclination of about one and one-half (1-1/2)
to one (1) (horizontal to vertical) with a vertical height of about
one hundred thirty (130) feet. The fill portion of the portal
bench and the stock pile areas will be constructed at an inclina-
lion of about two (2) to one (1). The portal bench fill will be
about one hundred thirty (130) feet high and the stockpile areas
will be about sixty (60) to eighty (80) feet high. The fill
material will be obtained from the proposed portal bench excava-
lion. .
1.2 Scope of Services
Our scope of services was to assess the theoretical calculated
stability of the proposed slopes. Our study included geotechnical
engineering review and analysis of existing data from geotechnical
engineering studies conducted for adjacent projects and report
I⢠
~iambert anD ~,~,~otiates
CONSULTING GEOTEONNICAL EN GIN EER$ AND
MATERIAL TESTING
