M99238GE
C J
APPENDIX B
The laboratory study consisted of performing:
. Moisture Content and Dry Density
. Moisture content-dry density relationship tests, and
. Triaxial compression strength tests,
It should be noted that samples obtained using a drive type sleeve
sampler may experience some disturbance during the sampling operations.
The test results obtained using these samples are used only as
indicators of the in situ soil characteristics.
TESTING
Moisture Content and Dry Density
Moisture content and dry density were determined for each sample
tested of the samples obtained. The moisture content was determined
according to ASTM Test Method D2216 by obtaining the moisture sample
from the drive sleeve. The dry density of the sample was determined by
using the wet weight of the entire sample tested. The results of the
• moisture and dry density determinations are presented on the logs of
test borings, Figures 2 through A5.
Moisture Content-Dry Density Relationship Tests
Moisture content-dry density relationship tests were conducted on
select soils samples obtained during our field study anticipated to be
the proposed embankment fill material. The moisture-density
relationship tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM Test Method
D698. The results of the moisture-density relationship tests are
presented on Figure B1.
Triaxial Compression Strength Tests
Triaxial compression strength properties of remolded and undisturbed
samples were evaluated in general accordance with testing procedures
defined by ASTM Test Method D2850. An unconsolidated undrained test and
a unconsolidated drained test was performed on each sample tested. The
tests were performed using a strain controlled triaxial compression
testing machine. The results of the triaxial compression strength tests
are tabulated below

B1
~Cambert anD ~,os~ociate,~
CONSULTING OEOTECN NICIL ENGIN EER$ IND
MILE RILL TE$i1N(,'
