M99238GE <br />• the case it will be necessary to protect that area of the on-going <br />work from freezing or removing the frozen material prior to the <br />onset of the next day's work. It may be helpful to stockpile dry <br />material and place a loose lift of this dry material to protect the <br />placed and compacted fill from frost. The material may be removed <br />the next morning and returned to stockpile for future use. If the <br />material should become moistened, such as rain cr snow, the materi- <br />al should be stored separately from the dry stockpile material. <br />S.9 Borrow Material <br />IC is our understanding that the borrow material will be obtained <br />within the sediment pond area. The area of the borrow should be <br />stripped of all topsoil, organic and deleterious material. The <br />topsoil may be stockpiled for later use. The topsoil should not be <br />included in the structural portion of the dam embankment. The <br />final constructed excavated cut slopes of the borrow area should be <br />at an inclination of interior excavation cut slopes as discussed <br />above or flatter after the borrow material has been removed. <br />5.0 POST DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS <br />The project geotechnical engineer should be consulted during <br />construction of the project to observe site conditions and open <br />.excavations during construction ar_d to provide materials testing of <br />soil and concrete. <br />This subsurface soil and foundation condition study is based on <br />limited sampling; therefore, it is necessary to assume that the <br />subsurface conditions do not vary greatly from those encountered in <br />the field study. Our experience has shown that significant varia- <br />tions are likely to exist and can become apparent only during <br />additional on site excavation. For this reason, and because of our <br />familiarity with the project, Lambert and Associates should be <br />retained to observe foundation excavations prior to foundation <br />construction, to observe the geotechnical engineering aspects of <br />the construction and to be available in the event any unusual or <br />unexpected conditions are encountered. The cost of the geotech- <br />nical engineering observations and material 'testing during con- <br />struction or additional engineering consultation is not included in <br />the fee for this report.
