M-2000-103
Dear Mr. Gillis,
The Coorado Division of Wildlife (CROW) has reviewed this permit request and offers the following comments for
your consideration. I talked to the applicant's agent, IGrk Allen, about the permit on 09/14100 and he explained what
the permit entailed. L3ascally, the applicant, Allen Small, is planning to dear off a site on his property to build a
house. Personnel of the Aztec National Ruins Monument cortfacted Small about the sdl and told him that they
would Eke to fill in some Indian Wins on their monument with the excess sdl. The monument personnel will only
need a small amount -about 2,000 cubic yards - to complete their project.
This project should have minimal impacts to the wildlife in the area The CDOW would, however, recommend
reclaiming any of the disturbed areas that will remain wildlife habitat back to their natural slate. This would include
reseeding the sites with a seed mixture of native grasses, forks and shrubs. The CDOW also recommends
developing a management plan to prevent any spread of noxious weeds in the area. This would include checking
any equipment or trucks corrtirtg into the area and looking for any pieces or seeds of noxious weeds on the
equipment.
If you have any questions, please contact me a1 the Durango Service Center at 247-0855. The CDOW appredated
having the opportunity to comment on this project and would like to continue to comment on any project that may
involve and impact wildlife and its habitat.
Sincerely,
Melody Miller
District Wildlife Manager
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES Grog Welcher, Exenfi~e arer2or
Wi_DI.JFE COMMISSION, Renard L.
