• DIESEL EQUIPMENT
1. The manufacturer's operating (excluding the 17,000 cubic feet
per minute ventilation requirement) and maintenance manuals
will be followed in the care of diesel equipment.
2. The water scrubber of each diesel machine will be visually
checked for proper operation every sixteen hours of operation
of the machine during the regularly scheduled maintenance
work.
3, A, Return air from every working place where diesel powered
machines are used shall be tested once each day while the
equipment is in operation. Daily testing of each diesel
machine for CO and NOp will be on the downwind side of
the machine not closer that five feet and not greater than
twenty feet from the exhaust. The tests shall be analysis
• of the gas concentration of CO, and NOZ, Should the con-
centrations of these gases exceed established threshold
limit values (TLV) of these gases as set by the American
Conference of Industrial HygienisLS, corrective measures
will be taken immediately, The date, time of sampling, and
analysis obtained will be recorded in a book maintained for
this purpose. Presently the TLV of these are:
CO = 50 ppm
NOZ = 5 ppm
B: Corrective measures will consist of ; (1) visually checking
proper operation of the water scrubber(s), and (2) the
machine(s) exceeding the TLV values will be repaired,
removed from the mine, or the quantity of air coursed over
the machine(s) increased to reduce gas concentrations to
levels at or below TLV values.
• Page Seventeen
Revised 04/13/81
Revised 06/10/81
