~ From NATIVE SEEDERS -Sohn: awes PHONE No. : 2996 • Mdr.12 1999 5:4L3PM
i
' III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
sss
February 16, 1999
Mined Laad Reclamation
Carl Mount
Gregg Squire
Christina ICamnikar
Denver, CO
This letter is in regards to the Thrcc Bell Gravel Ph reclarnntion altd post-mined land use.
Approximately 20 years ago the community surruuntling this gravel expansion agreed to
allow mining. 7'hc Larimer County Commissioners wcrc told that the post-mined land
use would remain agricultural and to benefit wildlife. The terms open space and
enhancement of recrentioml opportunities for the community wcrc promised. The
rrt;lamatlon that wac to promptly follow gravel extraction wos ignored. 71tc owtership of
the property bas ohnngcd, and the new owtwry trove no intern to follow the post-mined
land ore premise. They have designed elnborak: plans to build hurrws around the lake.
This is in conflict wiW premises made to Larimer C:ounly (;omm;~cloncrs when the
gravel mine was first proposed under petition for spc:ial review.
Much ofthc wildlife has ban driven off. The construction of homes will disrupt bald
eagle nesting tu:livity adjacent to the property. 11 will also doom the deer and small
mammal habitat. Migratory waterfowl and small game populations will be discouraged
from returning es before the mining permit was issued. One ofthc last undeveloped
riparian ltabilals kft on the lower Cache la Poudre River will he lost forever to
developers. The tllerttc of gravel m[ning to benefit wildlife has been a hoax. Further
expwtsion of this permit to tttitw slwuld be stopped.
New permits to mine xhould be LssueJ fur further expansion. '1'hc last twenty years under
the present pcrmifcellcd 'Three Dell;has not been followed. The ownership of the
property has ohmrged numy times. The'trcw owncr~ arc nut willing to follow the terms of
the old ptYinit. Therofore, a new permit should be required before any more gravel pits
are opened.
For these reasons rite followutg wmmunity members arc opposed to file new change ill
the post-mined Lurd uec: -
Printed Name: v~trJ +' ~~iJtyA ~~-
Signed Name: ~ /'~-,.r~~
Address: .3?c{ LG2. j lJ LNVS~2
P01
Telepkwnc: ~"7,0 ~~ ~ ~) ~
