INC.
•
MINE OFFICE-SOMERSET, GOIORHDO 914 Ja
303929-SB] S
May 11, 1981
T0: Catherine Chachas
FROM: Von McAllister
SUBJECT: 4later Sampling Program
~~~- S
Our water quality monitoring program includes two types of samples:
discharge samples and quarterly samples.
Discharge samples are taken as grab samples from the discharge pipe
of the sediment ponds. These sediment pond locations are marked on
the attached map, and are as follows:
SP 1 Norris Pond
SP 2 West Mine Pend (not yet constructed)
• SP 3 Substation Pond
SP 4 East Mine Warehouse Pond
SP 5 Intake Shaft Pond (not yet constructed)
At least one sample is taken for every seven days that we discharge.
We normally take one sample each day that we discharge. Samples are
taken by Oscar Beck or myself. In the past we have been analysing
these samples for TSS, TDS, total iron, and pH. We will begin analysing
them for antimony, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead,
mercury, nickel, selenium, silver, thallium, zinc, cyanide and phenols.
Results are sent quarterly on an NPDES reporting form to the Colorado
Department of Health and to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Quarterly samples are taken once every three months, as close to the
beginning of the quarter as possible. These are taken at four different
kinds of points: river, streams, drill holes, and Crystal Meadows
monitoring wells. These locations are also marked on the attached map,
and are explained as follows:
®~v~~~~p
rtrav i ~ i~s~
WESTERN SLOPE CARBON, lNC.
A S V B S I O I A R V O F N O R T H W E S T E N E R G Y C O M- A N Y
