slightly affected, if at all, by the upgradient mining. The 2000 TDS values for well GE-1 •
declined to close to their pre 1990's values. These changes are within natural variations
and may or may not be caused by mining. The remainder of the QR wells are located
away from present mining activities and could not have been affected, with the exception
of well GP-6 near the F pit. The mining at the F pit has not been long enough to affect the
water quality in QR well GP-6.
The water quality in HI aquifer wells GB-5 and GP-3, which are close to the
redaimed A pit, has not been influenced by mining. TDS has slightly increased during the
last few years at wells GE-2 and GF~. This small increase may be due to mining but is
within natural variations for this aquifer. The water quality in HI well GMP-1 may have
been slightly affected by mining, but it's concentrations are within the range of natural
concentrations. The water quality in HI well GC-1, downgradient of the mining in this area, .. •
has not been affected. The remainder of the HI wells east of the areas mined have not
been affected.
The TDS plot of the 3rd White Sandstone well GB-2 indicates it has probably not
been affected by mining, and changes are within natural variations for this aquifer. Mining
could have caused concentrations to vary in 3rd White Sandstone well GE-3 but the
variations observed are also within natural variation. The 3rd White Sandstone wells GC-2
and GP-9 are downgradient of mining starting in 2000 and changes in water quality in
these wells in 2000 is similar to previous natural changes. Increases in TDS in 3rd White
Sandstone well P-8 were large in 1996 through 2000 and could be due to upgradient
mining. The magnitude and timing of this increase makes it likely that it was caused by
upgradient mining in the A pit. •
6-4
