•
4.0 SURFACE WATER
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ~PP.~..~-,~ ~
-- mod ~ i~ f~
Doc Date:12111/2001
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site and seventeen active NPDES discharge
sites during 2000. The stream site Flume Gulch (S-1) was sampled during the October
2000 sampling to characterize spring flows at this location. Flow was observed at NPDES
sites 001, 002, 011, 013 and 017 in 2000. Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also
NPDES site 011. Sites were monitored weekly throughout the year. Sites NPDES 003, 005,
006, 008, 009, 010, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 019 and 020 did not discharge during 2000.
Maps No. 2-1 through 2-3 show the locations of these surface-water sites.
4.1 SURFACE-WATER FLOW
The 2000 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C-1 represents instantaneous
measurements associated with NPDES water-quality sampling. Surface runoff was less
than normal in 2000 at the Trapper Mine, except for a peak runoff event in September.
Flgures C-1 through C-4 present the instantaneous flow versus time for the Trapper
•
NPDES sites for 2000. Flow occurred during the weekly sample at NPDES 001 except for
some-weeks in June through October of 2000. The high flow during sampling was a flow
of 1530 gpm on September 22, 2000. High flows e~osted more often due to snow melt at
NPDES 002 than at NPDES 001 during 2000 with a peak sample flow of 723 gpm (see
Figure C-2}. The peak flows at both of these sites during the Spring snowmelt are
significantly less than their 1998 peaks. Surtace flow at NPDES 011 existed during portions
of January through May and in September in 2000 with a sampling peak flow of 1160 gpm
on September 22, 2000 (see Figure C-3). No flows occurred at NPDES 013 in 2000 but
have been historically presented with NPDES 011 data. Figure C-4 shows that flow from
4-1
