4-17 <br />4.2.3 Groundwater Quality <br />Six water sampling holes were drilled along East Salt Creek and a regular sampling program was <br />conducted there. Fluctuations are evident and holes are frequently dry. The variability of data collected <br />does not allow for an accurate analysis of seasonat variations. <br />Both surtace and groundwater analysis exhibit high total dissolved solids and can be <br />characterized as sulfate bicarbonate waters. Analysis for the period fo December 1977 through April <br />1979, shown in Tables 4.2-1 through 4.2-5, indicated that groundwater in the alluvium is a sodium sulfate <br />type containing dissolved solids ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 mg/I. Groundwater quality as shown in the <br />above noted tables was established from sampling six alluvial wells as shown on Figure 4.2-2. This figure <br />also shows the location of wells to be utilized in future monitoring as describe in Section 4.2.4. These data <br />suggest an increase in both dissolved solids concentration and sodium sulfate in the downstream <br />direction. <br />4.2.4 Groundwater duality Monitoring Program <br />A water quality monitoring program has been established to develop additional ground water data <br />in the area of the McClave Canyon Mine and to monitor the effect of operations upon the resource. The <br />monitoring program will consist of the following items: <br />• 1. Quarterly monitoring of wells GW-1 and GW-3 for Static Water Level, pH, Temperature <br />and Specific Conductance. <br />2. Water quality sampling of mine water discharges as required by NPDES and CDOH <br />permit. <br />3. Monitoring of all non-seep inflows into the mine to include source, quantity, duration and <br />quality (pH, Electrical Conductance and Temperature). <br />4. Monitor quantities of water discharged from the mine, consumed in the mine and <br />imported for use in the mine. <br />Results of the quarterly groundwater monitoring shall be submitted to the Division during the <br />month following the end of that quarter. Results of additional monitoring will be submitted to the Division <br />in an annual hydrological report. The annual report will detail inflows, discharges and consumption of <br />water within the mine and shall be structured around the normal `tivater year" (October 1 through <br />September 30). The annual report will also include baseline water quality data in addition to the quarterly <br />monitoring data to allow for comparison of baseline and"during mining" conditions. The annual report for <br />the previous water year will be submitted no later than March 31 of each year. <br />Water samples will be collected with a bailer after the depth to water has been measured. All <br />monitoring wells shall be pumped at least once a year and at least one day prior ro sample collection with <br />an air lift or a bailer. <br />M`Clane Volume 1 (Rev 6/04) <br />
