Coulson Excavating Company, Inc. -Bonser Gravel Pit
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
Background and Procedure
The Bonser gravel pit will be operational for 15 years. Overburden removal will begin one year after
permitting, with gravel removal starting 30 to b0 days thereafter. Mining operations will follow standard
gravel pit mining procedures, and the processing of gravel will take place on site. A crusher and screening
facility will be conveyed to the Bonser mining pit when operation begins, and an asphalt plant will be
brought in approximately six months after start-up. Placed on the western boundary of the mine, these
facilities will also be accompanied by a scale house. Raw material stockpiles will be placed south of the
asphalt planUcrusher facility, measuring approximately 130 - 160 R. in diameter and 20 - 40 ft. in height.
The mine will be divided into three equal sections, each pit measuring approximately 112,772 ydr, in
which mining will take place for 5 years. Roughly 43,273 yd3 of topsoil, 50,835 yd3, and 94,107 yd3 of
overburden (topsoil plus subsoil) will be removed from each pit; and approximately 886,530 tons of
gravel will be extracted from each pit (Table 1). An average of 177,306 tons of gravel will be extracted
from the mine each year, totaling 2,659,590 tons over 15 years. Mining will begin at the southern
boundary and move towards the north.
Tablel
Duration Topsoil Removed Subsoil Removed Overburden removed Gravel Extracted
Pit 1 5 yrs. 43,273yd3 50,835yd3 94,108 yd' 886,30 tons
Pit 2 5 yrs. 43,273yd3 50,835yd3 94,108 yd3 886,530 tons
Pit 3 5 yrs. 43,273yd3 50,835yd3 94,108 yd3 886,530 tons
TOTAL 129,819yd3 152,505yd3 282,324yd3 2,659,590 tons
Mining Operations and Timetable
Each pit will be operational for five years, beginning with pit 1. Overburden removal, grave] extraction,
pit lining, and backfilling will take place before proceeding to the next pit. Located on the northern
boundary of each cell, overburden stockpiles are to measure approximately 20 - 30 ft. high, 2,100 ft. long,
and 40 = 60 ft. wide. After gravel is removed, approximately 63,500 yd3 of weathered Pierre shale w~l] be
used to construct a 2 ft. thick liner, and stockpiles will be backfilled into the pit from which they were
taken. Table 2 illustrates the operations summary.
