4-20 <br />• 4.5 SURFACE WATER HYDROLOGY <br />4.5.1 Introduction <br />The objectives of the study were: <br />1. To provide a detailed discusiion of surface water flow <br />through the mine plan area in compliance with Comment 13 <br />of the March 3, 1980 transmittal from the Colorado Mined <br />Land Reclamation Board to Sheridan Enterprises, Inc. <br />concerning the provisions of Section 783.17 of the Surface <br />Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (U.S. Department <br />of the Interior, 1979b); and <br />2. To furnish hydrologic information for the engineering <br />design of various water control structures in the Munger <br />• Canyon project area. <br />In order to fulfill study objectives, all relevant data concerning <br />the project were collected and reviewed. The available informa- <br />tion included the West Central Colorado Coal Environmental <br />Statement (U.S. Department of the Interior, 1979a); U.S. Geological <br />Survey streamflow records for the White River near Meeker, Colorado <br />and East Salt Creek near Mack, Colorado gaging stations; Sheridan <br />Enterprises, Inc. Loma Project design data and baseline water <br />sampling results; and U.S.G.S. topographic maps of the local <br />and regional area. <br />Following review and analysis of collected data, a site inspection <br />of the Munger Canyon area was performed on October 22, 1980 by <br />Hydro-Triad Ltd.
