4-2
•
vegetation.
The remaining portion of the area would have been utilized
as rangeland, with only a small portion aimed at associa-
ted agriculture due to the non-availability of water and a
suitable growth media. The majority of this area would be
considered as undeveloped rangeland./A portion of the area
exhibits some past over-grazing which has discouraged the
return of desirable species.
4.1.2.2 Present Land Use
The present land use of the proposed mine plan and permit
area is not unlike historical uses described above. Wildlife
habitat encompasses the majority of the area with the remain-
. der of the area utilized as rangeland. Topographic features
vary from level to steep slopes and vertical rock outcrops
along the side of the drainage. Cattle are grazed on the
rangelands and grazable woodlands that occur within the
lease area.
The land acreage within the proposed permit area is not
unlike uses realized throughout the region with grazing
being the predominate use with unknown degrees of success.
A portion of the acreage within the proposed mine plan and
permit area could only have been associated with wildlife
habitat due to considerations of topographic restrictions
water availability and vegetation, with the remaining portion
of the area used as rangeland.
