of the Upper Rider makes a blending situation with a higher quality coal a
• necessity in order to achieve a marketable product.
The Pinnacle seam, while not of the consistence in thickness and quality
of the Wadge, is the best of the lower group. Seam thickness average is in
excess of six feet, and Btu values are consistently high.
An additional seam, labeled Lower Rider by Sun Coal, has been correlated
approximately 90 feet below the Pinnacle. This seam averages 10 feet in thick-
ness with intermittent shale partings in outcrop deposits; down dip and at depth
the seam consolidates into two 4-foot seams with approximately 20 feet of inter-
burden. Coal quality of the Lower Rider is considered excellent except for
somewhat higher ash content.
The Blacksmith seam, lowermost correlatable coal in the lower group, is
located approximately 160 feet below the Pinnacle. This seam is extremely len-
• ticular and subject to splitting down dip and at depth. The Blacksmith is
reported to be the highest quality of all the lower group coals.
The individual coal seams and surrounding strata are illustrated on Tables
2.04.6-1 and 2.04.6-2.
•
- 68 - (Rev. 5/86)
