PIINING PLAN

CORTEZ PIT - NIELSONS, INC.

The Cortez Pit will be a quarry operation conducted approximately one
hundred (100) feet in elevation above McElmo Creek. Material is sand-
stone and will be initially removed by drilling and blasting to achieve
a level bench and leaving a vertical rock face. Equipment and blasting
will be employed in a manner to minimize the amount of material that will
be lost over the edge of the cliffs. Tl~e existing sandstone layer is
approximately forty (40) feet thick and is to be mined in approximately
twenty (20) foot lifts. Rock from the mining operation will be fed to the
crusher or a series of crushers and screens to obtain the size of aggre-
gate desired.
Vegetation will be cleared by hand and machinery and then burned. Topsoil,
where encountered, caill be stockpiled for reclamation of the pit.
Material from this site will be used for public and private work in the
Cortez area. A set of scales will be in place at all times, but other
.~~
equipment for mining and hauling caill be moved in only as required.
