RECLAMATION PLAN
ALEXANDER PIT - NIELSONS, INC.
Some topsoil exists along the edge of the river. This topsoil along
with the high water table in the area have produced a variety of grasses and
shrubs along with cottonwoods in the strip along the river.
The area of operation has no topsail, and vegetation is nearly non-
existant. Stripping will consist mainly of removing oversize rock, driftwood,
and trash from the surface area. Some of this material will be used to bury
any vegetation that is removed, and the rest left in stockpiles along the edge of
the worked area.
After removed of the gravel and completion of the operation, any ridges
of stripped material or waste from crushing and washing will be spread over
the pit area, and the surface area will be left in a neat condition. No
revegetation is planned as there is no topsoil at the existing site that
would support such reclamation. The area will be left as river bottom but
with a lower elevation than at present. This should improve chances of
seasonal flooding which may provide enough silt and native plants to ve-
getate the area.
Another possible reclamation plan if conditions allow and if approved
by the Land Reclamation Board would be to excavate gravel below water level
and thus leave ponds to create a wildlife area. Colorado's Division of
Wildlife would be consulted in this type of reclamation effort.
