r
MINING PLAN
ALEXANDER PIT - NIELSDNS, INC.
Because of the scarcity of topsoil at this pit site, little or no
stripping is done before production starts.
A portable crusher is brought to the pit and set up for the size of
aggregate desired. Pit-run gravel is carried to the crusher by front end
loaders and dozers. Material is crushed and screened as required and then
stockpiled at the site.
Some of the material is then processed thru the washall machine to
obtain sand and gravel for concrete operations. Water discharged from the
washall is placed in settling ponds so that the fine sand and silt is
deposited away from the river. After completion of the washing operation,
this fine material is removed from the pond and stockpiled. The settling
pond may be used more than once in this way.
The raw material is removed in horizontal layers, and this forms a
bench on the gravel, giving the operator an area in which to set up his
equipment and stockpile.
