Conclusions
The proposed structures should be supported on a foundation system consisting of straight-shaft drilled
piers advanced through the existing fill materials, natural sands and clays, and into the underlying
competent claystone-shale bedrock materials. Design pazameters for the drilled pier foundation system are
outlined herein, as well as recommendations and design pazameters for floor slabs, foundation walls and
retaining structures, perimeter/underdrain systems and site grading.
Purpose And Scope of Study
This report presents the results of Subsoil and Foundation Investigation for the proposed Wash Plant
Facility to be constructed at the Twentymile Coal-Foidel Creek Mine in Routt County, Colorado. The
approximate location of the project site is shown in Figure #1.
A field exploration program was conducted to obtain information on subsurface conditions. Material
samples obtained during the subsurface investigation were tested in the laboratory to provide data on the
classification and engineering chazacterisGcs of the on-site soils and bedrock materials. The results of the
field and laboratory investigations aze presented herein.
This report has been prepazed to summazize the data obtained and to present our conclusions and
recommendations based on the proposed construction and the subsurface conditions encountered. Design
pazameters and a discussion of geotechnical engineering considerations related to conswction of the
proposed structures aze included.
Proposed Construction
It is our understanding that the proposed Wash Plant Facility will consist of the construction a 1300 TPH
wash plant building, screening building, control/MCGOffice building, static thickener, transfer building
and 200 ton refuse bin. We have assumed that the proposed building structures will consist of structural
steel or metal tanks. We have assumed that some of the structures may be constructed with concrete slab-
on-grade floor systems.
For design purposes, we have assumed the structure loadings to be moderate to high, typical of this type of
industrial construction. If loadings or conditions aze significantly different from those described above, we
should be notified to reevaluate the recommendations contained in this report.
lob Number: 07-7442 NWCC, Inc.
