Project Description
Background:
Aggregate Industries-WCR, Ina (Aggregate) is proposing a sand and gravel mining
operation in the Northeast '/< and South %Z of Section 1 and the Northwest '/4 of Section
12, Township 1 South, Range 67W, 6`h Principal Meridian, Adams County, Colorado.
The proposed mine known as Tucson South Resource, is more specifically located on the
northwest, northeast and south side of the intersection of Tucson Street and State
Highway 7 just west of the city of Brighton. It encompasses several parcels totaling
approximately 290.7 acres. The site is currently used primarily for agriculture. There are
also several existing residences located within the permit boundary.
Proposed Project:
It is anticipated that mining at this site will begin in 2005. The proposed life of the mine
is 12-18 years, depending on market conditions. There are no concrete or asphalt batch
plants planned for this site.
Mining: The site will be mined in three (3) Phases. The mining sequence will begin in
Phase 1, located on the south side of State Highway 7, continue to Phase 2 on the east
side of Tucson Street, and finally Phase 3 on the west side of Tucson Street. Resource
material mined under this permit will be processed at the existing Tucson (North)
Resource Pit (MLRB Permit M-1991-140), or at the Processing Area located within
Phase 3. The Processing Area will contain the scale, scale house, processing equipment,
conveyors, raw and finished material stockpiles, and wash ponds. Phase 1 will be wet
mined, used for a silt pond, and included with the processing area for the life of the mine.
All other mining areas will be dewatered and mined dry.
Reclamation: Aggregate proposes to reclaim the property as lined water storage
reservoirs. The remaining areas are to be filled and reclaimed as upland or wet meadow.
Phase 1 and Phase 2A will be filled with silts and reclaimed as upland or wet meadow.
Phase 2 and 3 will be lined water storage reservoirs created by concurrent reclamation.
The area west of the Brighton Ditch will be filled and reclaimed as upland area.
