•
Mr. Norm Roche
June 30, 2000
Page 3
Inc
Overhead power lines along State Highway 60 located approximately 60 feet west of the
proposed mine;
Barn and smaller farm buildings on the west part of the property (the barn is approximately
160 feet from the proposed mine; the nearest farm building is approximately 35 feet from
the proposed mine);
An irrigation ditch immediately west of the proposed mine;
A gas well on the south part of the property approximately 190 feet east of the proposed
mine;
A gas well and separator on the east part of the property approximately 1 10 feet east of the
mine;
Two gas wells and their associated tank batteries and separators located along proposed
haul roads on berms between proposed mine cells (these structures are 10 to 40 feet from
proposed mine areas);
Gas well and associated separator and tank battery northwest of the proposed mine (these
structures are approximately 30 to 100 feet from the proposed mine);
Buried gas collector line associated with the site gas wells (the gas lines run between and
around some of the proposed mine cells approximately 10 to 80 feet from the proposed
mine);
Gas well and associated equipment located off of the site property, east of the northeast part
of the proposed mine approximately 30 to 60 feet from the proposed mine and at a lower
elevation;
An overhead electric power line northwest of the proposed mine approximately 80 feet
away at its closest point; and
Union Pacific Railroad tracks northwest of the mine approximately 180 feet from the
proposed mine at its nearest point.
In our opinion, gravel mining, mine related disturbances, and subsequent reclamation activities
should not impact these structures under the proposed mining plan with mine slopes no steeper
than 2:1 (horizontal to vertical). The mine slopes should be stable and the slurry wall will protect
the irrigation ditch from significant losses during times of dewatering. As of this writing, the buried
gas collector lines near the proposed mine are only approximately located. Prior to mining,
subsurface utilities should be better located and care should be practiced when mining near buried
utilities.
LIMITATIONS
Our review is based on regional geologic mapping, a site reconnaissance, review of present mining
plans that include mining the cells at slopes no steeper than 2:1 (horizontal to vertical), and a
stability analysis using typical soil strength parameters. Should the mining area, the mine slopes, or
other aspects of the mine plan change, we should be contacted in order to re-evaluate the potential
affects of mining or man-made structures.
