' Pit is the smaller of the two pits and will encompass approximately 20 acres.
The West Pit will encompass approximately 110 acres. For details ~~f the mining
' operation, see Section D.2.
' On average, the mine will have a stripping ratio of 1.75:1. Twenty two and
one half million tons of waste rock will be removed over the life of the mine,
Six areas will be utilized for waste rock disposal. The largest of these disposal
' areas will be located south of the Rito Seco and will be utilized for disposal
of waste rock and dewatered tailings. Four smaller waste rock disposal areas
are proposed north of the stream. The sixth waste rock disposal area is the East
Pit. Once mining is complete in the East Pit, waste rock from the idest Pit will
' be used to backfill the East Pit. For a more detailed discussion on waste rock
disposal see Section D.3.
1

1

1

Once mined, the ore will be separated into high-grade ore for processing
in the mill and lower-grade ore for heap leach processing. It is currently
anticipated that approximately 6.5 million tons of ore will be le;iched and 6.5
million tons of ore will be milled.
The heap leach ore will be crushed to minus 3/16 inch and I~laced on the
leach pad. The leach pad will be a double-lined facility with a secondary
recovery system between the liners. The leach pad system is designed to be non-
discharging under normal operating conditions and the 100-yr, 24-hr design storm
conditions. The capacity of the leach pad and associated pond systen is designed
to contain the precipitation from a lOC-yr, 24-hr storm in addition to total. pad
draindown without discharging. The pad will be sloped to the southwest to free-
drain into a barren and pregnant pond system located in the southwest corner of
the leach pad. The heap leach facility is described in detail in `.section D.7.
The mill facility will consist of an additional crushing cir~:uit to crush
the ore to minus 250 microns, a typical flotation circuit, a cyanida~ion circuit,
and a gold recovery circuit. The mill tailings will be dewatered and disposed
in the southern waste rock disposal area. More complete discussions of the
milling operations and tailings disposal method are contained in Sections D.5
and D.3, respectively.
