Ray Lewis
Subject: Rock 1•techanics Laboratory Testing for Carbon Junction i;oal Project
Dear Ray:
Enclosed are the results of two slake durability tests and two roc Y, on rock
shear strength tests that were performed on sandstone rock samples from your
Carbon Juction Coal liine project. Results of the slake durability tests are
summarized in table 1 and the shear strength test results are given in figures
1 and 2.
The rock that was tested is a very competent, well cemented, gray to light
gray sandstone. Slake durability indices obtained were 97% and 98%. Rock on
rock friction angles were 31 and 32 degrees for the two tests with an average
angle of 31.3 degrees. Shear strength tests were run with normal pressures
ranging from 2 ksf to 16 ksf.
• All tests were performed in accordance with ISRM or ASTM specification as appli-
cable. Shear strength tests were conducted on samples at air dry moisture con-
tent.
If you have any further questions concerning this report, or if you are in need
of additional services, please do not hesitate to contact us.
F. t1.
