southeast of the town of Grand Valley, and the terminal facilities
i site is located just north of Grand Valley.
The Arvada soil is present on both of these sites and was sampled
on each separately. The torrifluvents soil was found only on
the water intake facility site. Test results are found in Appendix
B of this exhibit. The information presented here describes only
the extreme soil properties that were observed at the water intake
facility and terminal facilities sites. All other properties
are within acceptable ranges described for the Dow West property.
The Arvada #1 sample was collected south of the highway approxi-
mately one mile east of Grand Valley on the water intake facility
site. The sample was collected in a vegetation type dominated
by greasewood (Sarcobatus vermiculatus). Soluble salt electrical
conductivity exceeded 4.0 below 3 inches. Sodium absorption ratios
exceeding 10 (indicating poor soil conditions) were found from
the surface to 17 inches.
•
The Arvada #2 sample was collected at the terminal facilities
site on the east side of the road leading north from Grand Valley
toward the Dow West property. This sample was collected in an
area which has been cleared of native vegetation and farmed for
an undetermined number of years. Soluble salt electrical conduc-
tivity exceeded 4.0 below 20 inches. Sodium absorbtion ratios
exceeding 10 were found below 20 inches,
Textucal extremes are found in the Arvada #2 soil which possessed
greater than 45 percent clay below 6 inches. This creates poor
to unsuitable material for use as plant growth material.
The torrifluvents soil sample was taken on the water intake faci-
lity site. The vegetation at the site was dominated by greasewood.
Soil chemical analysis shows no limitation for plant growth, however,
• localized salinity is evident upon field inspection.
2-26
