4.0 Conclusions and
• proportion of wane season grasses relative to coo] season grasses. The seed mixture developed as
part of the Mine Permit is comprised of 39 percent cool season grasses and 40 percent warm season
grasses. Wann season grasses are better represented in this seed mixture. As a result, areas
reclaimed in the future using this seed mixture are expected to meet the species diversity standard for
warm season grasses.
One foot of topsoil material was used as part of the reclamation program for the reclaimed site. This
site has been able to support a vaziety of perennial grasses and forbs for over a nine period. Although
the site does not meet two of the reclamation standards, this is believed to be related to past
reclamation practices rather than topsoil depth. It is therefore likely that a program that uses a
similar reclamation approach (including placement of one foot of topsoil), but also incorporates the
elements of the reclamation plan, will allow for successful revegetation of coal waste azeas.
~ •
C~
RevegetationStweyReport-RPr(626)Revl.dodSeptember 6, 2001 1 f
