Valent-Wigton area <br /> <br />Deep, nearly level to hilly; excessively drained, sandy soils formed <br />in sandy eolian material. <br />This soil area is in the south central and southeastern part of the <br />survey area. It occupies about 7 percent of the total acreage. About <br />60 percent of the area is the Valent soil, 15 percent Wigton soil, and <br />the remaining 25 percent in soils of minor extent. <br />The Valent soil has sand surface layers and underlying layers. The <br />Wigton soil has a loamy sand surface layer and underlying layers grading <br />from loamy sand to sand. <br />i <br />The minor soils in this area are the well drained Ascalon, Bi3ou, <br />Olney and Vona soils. <br />Almost all of this soil area is used for livestock grazing. These <br />soils are unsuited for dryland farming because of the sandy textures and <br />limited precipitation. A few small areas have developed sprinkler <br />irrigation. <br />The potential for homesites is good. The limiting soil feature is <br />the sandy texture and erosion hazard. The potential for wildlife <br />habitat ie fair. <br />33 <br />5 <br />
