• ~ •
/- 10. Stoneham-Ascalon-Fort Collins area
Deep, nearly level to strangely eloping well drained loam and sandy
loam soils; formed in mixed alluvium and eolian materials.
This soil area ie on uplands in the south central part of the survey
area. It occupies about 5 percent of the total acreage. .About 25
percent is the Stoneham soil, 20 percent Ascalon soil, 20 percent Fort
Collins soil, and the remaining 35 percent is soils of minor extent.
The Fort Collins soil has loam surface layers and the Ascalon and
Stoneham soils have mostly sandy loam surface layers. The Ascalon soil
also has darker colored surfe.ce layers than do the Stoneham and Fort
Collins soils.
1 The minor soils in this area are the well drained %eith, Olney, Poaa,
and Wiley soils. '
This soil area is used mainly for livestock grazing. Cropland is very
limited because of the low amount of precipitation.
The potential for hemesites is good and fair for wildlife habitat.

31
