Bischoff, Minerals Program Supervi
RE: File M-88-81, Sheridan Lode Mine, Notice of Permit
The Mined Land Reclamation Division received a permit application fora Two
Acre Limited Impact Operation from Mr. Harry D. Covey on August 3, 1988 for
1.94 acre underground gold and silver mine. The name of the proposed
operation is the Phil Sheridan Lode, and is situated within the Gold Hill
Mining District at Section 8, T1N, R71W, Boulder County, Colorado.
The Division found the application complete on August 4, 1988 and a decision
due date was set for August 19, 1988 in accordance with the applicable
timeframes mandated by the Mined Land Reclamation Act (34-32-110 (1 )).
Decision
On August 19, 1988, the Division found Mr. Harry D. Covey to be in compliance
with the requirements for permit approval in the Act (34-32-115) and Rule 10
of the Rules and Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board. Therefore,
the Division has approved the permit application and issued a permit to Mr.
Covey.
Objections
Twelve letters of objection and one letter of support were filed with the
Division prior to 5:00 p. m., Wednesday, August 17, 1988, the deadline by which
such letters could have been received for consideration. The Division also
received three letters of objection after the deadline which were not
addressed (Shipman, Ravity and Leidig). The twelve timely objections fell
into four categories and were addressed by the Division as follows:
1. A concern was raised about the possible impact of the operation on
a water well situated on the property of an adjacent landowner
(Branson). The Division determined that evaluation of this concern
fell within the Division's jurisdiction. An on-site inspection was
conducted on Wednesday afternoon, August 17, 1988 with the operator
a representative of the landowner present. The Division determined
that the operation would not adversely impact the adjacent
landowner's well as described in the attached inspection report.
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
