Pubescent Wheatgrass •4.61bs/acre PLS
Crested Wheatgrass 3.3 Ibs/acre PLS
O lt, Westem Wheatgrass 5.3 lbs/acre PLS
p~~~ • Double these rates if broadcast seeded
~-e~1 ,,~~~ The SCS (NRCS) n:commended revegetation plan includes a seed mix that can be improved
LO'"~ upon by substituting Western Wheatgrass (a specie making up a significant portion of the local
natural plant community) for the Switchgrass not commonly found on such a dry range site,
unless there are moist areas. Also Galleta grass is an important native specie of this region and
should be included in a miz. Please commit to using the following seed mix or provide another
mix for Division consideration.
S cie Vane - ~ -, ~o Mix PLS/Acre
Sideoats grams Vaughn or Niner 30 *2.7
Blue grams Covington or Hachita 20 0.6
Sand dropseed Native 10 0.2
Western Wheatgrass Arriba or Barton 20 3.2
Galleta Viva 20 0.8
'Double these rates if broadcast seeded
a lit-This seed mix will also do better since the growth medium is to be replaced over shale.
5 4. Your outline of the sequence of each stage or phase includes scarifying if necessary. It is
I e~~ understood that this scarifying is of the plant growth medium. If this is not so, please inform us
t of the use of the scarifying operation. The Division recommends that the operator commit to
ripping the pit floor to a depth of at least 6" - 8" prior to replacing topsoil. This will break up
the shale and allow for better root and water penetration. This will also provide for some
mixing with topsoil to prevent an abrupt hardpan-like barrier in the artificial soil profile. This
operation should be very beneficial in helping to establish the grasses quicker and in a thicker
stand. Please commit to this change or provide your plan to deal with having hard shale close
to the surface and interfering with plant root growth and water penetration. Ripping with a t+~d
grader would be satisfactory. .
Exhibit 2 -Reclamation Costs
The Division will calculate an estimate of the reclamation cost when the reclamation plan is
finalized.
M:~OSSW MMl1Fl~APY9T067 ADQ.IDO
._.
.2.
