• capacity during normal years averages .78 animal unit months per acre
with a range of .15 to 2.0 animal unit months of grazing per acre.
Condition Class of the Proposed Permit Area
Field evaluation by Getty's Range Scientist and representatives of the
USDA-Soils Survey Staff in Craig reveals that the premining condition
of the plant communities within the proposed permit area for livestock
and wildlife would be rated as fair to good. Areas where current
condition is rated fair are restricted to riparian ecosystems along
Fish Creek and Middle Creek. These livestock concentration areas
are the most likely to experience range deterioration. The unmined
lands within the proposed permit area are in the "good" condition
class, with the aforementioned exception.
Hydrological Capability
The available ground and surface water supplies in the mine plan and
adjacent area are limited in quantity and quality. Yields to private
• stock-watering and domestic wells are commonly less than 10 gallons
per minute of hard, alkaline, moderately saline water. No springs or
other major ground water discharge points occur in the mine plan
area. Surface water supplies are limited by temporal flow in the
ephemeral and intermittent streams and the small number of ponds or
other"impoundments. These limited water supplies and productivity in
the mine plan and adjacent area necessitate that land use be
restricted to rangeland, pastureland and dryland crop production.
(3) The application shall state whether the proposed permit area has
been previously mined, and, if so, the following information, if available:
a) The type and description of mining method used;
•
(b) The coal seams or other mineral strata mined;
(c) The extent of coal or other mineral removed;
(d) The approximate dates of past mining; and
(e) The uses of the land preceding mining.
2.04-8
