SATER MANAGEMENT PT~
PROJECT:
LOCATION:
RECEIVING WATERS:
CONTACT PERSON:
Mid-Western Farms Resource
T23S, R42W, Sections
Sections 13,19
17,18; T23S,
R43W,
Arkansas River
George Tempel
Managing Partner
Mid-Western Farms
P.O. Box 246
Wiley, CO 81092
(719) 829-9350
1.0 Site Description
The Mid-Western Farms Resource is located approximately two miles
west of Holly, Colorado in the Southwestern corner of the state.
This site sits north of the Arkansas River and South of U.S.
Highway 50. This will be a wet mined sand and gravel resource.
2.0 Description of Operation
This operation will be a wet mine with a clam shell dredge used to
excavate the material. No dewatering will occur at this site.
Drainage at the site is generally from northwest to southeast.
Sand and gravel mining will begin at the center point of the site
to the south of the railroad and will continue to the west first,
then towards the eastern side of the site. An asphalt plant and a
concrete batch plant will be set up in the processing area on the
north side of the railroad. All material processing will occur at
this processing site.
All stormwater runoff will flow across the disturbed areas and into
the excavated pits. A levee currently exists on the north side of
the Arkansas River that will prevent any and all stormwater runoff
from entering the river.
Some channelization may need to be added during future mining
phases in order to continue collecting all runoff in the excavated
areas. Any additional stormwater conveyance improvements will be
described in future annual SWMP reports if they are constructed.
Topsoil and overburden stockpile locations change to accommodate
the mining location, and therefore are not shown on the map. The
major axis of the stockpile layout shall be aligned with the
direction of potential flow in the floodplain. The stockpiles
shall be located as far from the Arkansas River as reasonable, to
reduce potential impedance of flood flows and sediment transport
impacts. The stockpiles shall not be allowed to cause the flood
elevations to rise, and therefore the amount of material stored at
the site will be minimized.
-1-
