Mr'. Hal Simpson
State Engineer's
October 14, 1993
Page 3
Office

Dust control is being handled by applications of water to the haul roads.
Estimates of the water used are based on applications by water trucks to
approximately five acres in t#~e processing plant area. An average of two,
1/8 inch applications of water per day will be used. Dust control will be
required approximately 120 days each year. Therefore, the annual projected
water use for dust control at the site will be 12.5 acre-feet. This water
will be fully consumed.
Water will be used for the washing operation at the processing plant area.
Three settling ponds will be constructed for the washing operation. The wash
water will be contained during washing and routed to the settling ponds and
then recycled through the system. All water losses associated with the
washing process should be negligible with the exception of the 48 loss
contained in the material that is mined and exported off-site and evaporation
from the 1.3 acres of settling ponds.
Water will be pumped from the pit for cooling of the generators that will be
on-site. The cooling water is fully contained during the cooling process.
The only consumptive use of the water will be the evaporation from the ditch
which will carry water from the generators after cooling to the gravel pit.
The surface area of the cooling water ditch will be approximately 0.1 acres.
Water will also be used for concrete production at the concrete batch plant
proposed for the site. It is estimated that 50,000 cubic yards will be
produced annually on the site. An average of 50 gallons per cubic yard is
required for concrete hatching which converts to 7.7 acre-feet annually.
The annual consumptive use of water for the mining operation for the first
year of mining will be as follows:
Lake Evaporation (8.0 ac) 39.6 ac-ft
wash Pond/Cooling Evaporation (1.4 ac) 6.0 ac-ft
Water Retained in Material 23.6 ac-ft
Dust Control 12.5 ac-ft
Concrete Production 7.7 ac-ft
Total 84.4 ac-ft
Table No. 1 lists the monthly consumptive use quantities.
D. PROJECT 1~iATER RIGETS
The net evaporation from the gravel pit lake and other consumptive uses of
water for the project will require augmentation by a senior water right.
Mid-Western Farms owns 1,509 shares of the Buffalo Creek Ditch (Please see
dry up statement regarding ownership). There are a total 4,690.22 shares
iassued in the ditch company.
