-4-
•
east of the site and the proposed mining plan anticipates construction
of a new haul road adjacent to the dam and along a prominent ridge which
generally runs in a northeast-southwest direction south of the proposed
reservoir area. There are several intermittent drainages from the pro-
posed mine area which drain into a small intermittent creek which flows
through the area of the proposed dam and reservoir construction. This
intermittent creek is a tributary of Foidel Creek. The ground surface
in the vicinity of the reservoir is fairly flat and near elevation 6925
with the lowest portions of the area at about elevation 6920. The ground
rises fairly sharply on the slope of Pinnacle Peak to the northeast of
the proposed embankment location. Above the east abutment the average
slope of the ground ranges from 20 to 25 percent. Below elevation 7000
• the ground surface flattens to slopes on the order of 15 to 20 percent.
In the proposed reservoir area the surface is relatively flat. The hill-
side slopes on the west abutment of the structure are somewhat flatter.
The area of the proposed reservoir construction is poorly drained.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The field investigation for this structure was accomplished during
late S my and the first week of August in 1979. The investigation in-
cluded a reconnaissance of the site and surrounding areas, as well as
drilling 11 exploratory borings. Five of the borings were drilled in the
•
