This proposed revision alters the mining
sequence in the Wedge coal seam, and requests relocation of the wedge boxcut
northeast of the previous Zocation. In the original plan, the Wedge area
would have been temporarily (9 years) reclaimed while mining operations
shifted to development of a new tease area. Since then, Seneca Coals, Ltd.
has been relieved of the due diligence requirements and requests approv,el
to continuously mine the Wedge coal seam without interruption. With this
change in mine plan, the need to temporarily reclaim approximately 7000 feet
of pit which would have been inactive for nine years is eliminated.
Revisions in the permit resultant from this proposal are found in the
hydrology section (Tab 7), operation plan (Tab 12) and the reclamation plan
(Tab 13). Concerns regarding the revision and these sections were discussed
in a meeting on March 25, 1982 and have been adequately addressed. AIZ run-
off will pass through the existing sediment pond 004. Ground water quality
impacts will be negligible.
The operation plan is adequate. AZI new road segment designs and specifications
are in compliance. These are roads AI, E1, EIa, E9, E4a, ES and DZa. The
life of the mine will be shortened by five years since mining will be
continuous in the [Jadge area.
Mining will progress southwest from the boxcut as shown on Exhibit 12-1,
necessitating temporary reclamation of the boxcut for about 5 years. The
temporary reclamation plan described in Tab I3 is adequate.
STATE OF COLORA00 g1~HARD D. L4MM. Gov r.~nm
r1
f`J
